Can an Allergy Cause Death?
Severe allergic reactions can be fatal. The most dangerous reaction is anaphylaxis, which can cause airway blockage, a sharp drop in blood pressure, and organ failure if not treated quickly.
What Is Anaphylaxis?
Anaphylaxis is a rapid, whole-body allergic reaction. Common triggers include foods, insect stings, medications, and latex. Symptoms often involve the skin, airways, heart, and gut at the same time.
When to Seek Emergency Care
Anaphylaxis is a medical emergency. Use an epinephrine auto-injector if available and call emergency services immediately. Even if symptoms improve, hospital evaluation is still needed.
