Black Footed Cat Size Compared to a House Cat
The black footed cat is one of the smallest African cats, yet it is notably heavier and more compact than most domestic house cats. Adults typically weigh between 1 and 2 kilograms, while a typical house cat ranges from 3.5 to 5 kilograms, making the black footed cat surprisingly dense for its stature.
Body Length, Height, and Proportions
In body length, black footed cats measure about 35 to 52 centimeters, excluding a short tail of roughly 13 to 20 centimeters. House cats are usually longer, around 46 to 56 centimeters in body length, with a proportionally longer tail. Shoulder height in black footed cats is roughly 20 centimeters, giving them a low, stout profile compared with the slightly taller build of many domestic breeds.
Why the Black Footed Cat Looks Smaller Than It Is
Despite a smaller overall frame, the black footed cat has a robust skeleton and powerful muscles, which contributes to its high weight relative to length. Its short legs, rounded ears, and compact body emphasize strength over height.
